It was in , and I was on a spiritual pilgrimage to India to study with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. That was before the Beatles saw him, by the way, when not too many people knew of him. Anyway, I visited the Taj and noticed its wonderful sound. The story of Harold Fry and his unlikely pilgrimage began as an afternoon play for radio. For many years, I have been writing plays and adapting novels for 'Woman's Hour' and the 'Classic' series. So this was originally a three-hander play, broadcast one sunny afternoon on BBC Radio 4.

Lincoln talks about his longing to visit the Holy Land and walk in the footsteps of David and Solomon. Mary chides Abe and herself for not being necessarily fit to take such a spiritual pilgrimage, seeing as how they’re taking a buggy ride on Good Friday. From what I can see, Lindbergh slipped a little in his spiritual progress after his lifetime as Abraham Lincoln. All of us need to put out some sort of spiritual effort to maintain forward momentum on the path, and neither Lincoln nor Lindbergh did that. To me, Lindbergh was Lincoln “on vacation.”.

ELTON TRUEBLOOD The Spiritual Pilgrimage of Abraham Lincoln Many of my friends have asked why it is that I have given so much time, in recent years, to the study of Abraham Lincoln.

My reply is a two-fold one. Elton Trueblood has always been one of my heroes. This book elevated Lincoln in my view.

Trueblood divides his book into 6 chapters; the spiritual pilgrimage of Lincoln (which any student of Am. history would be familiar), the agonizing interlude, Lincoln and the Bible, Lincoln at prayer, Lincoln and the church and the final paradox/5.

But in this classic work, Christian philosopher and statesman Elton Trueblood reveals how Lincoln's leadership skills flowed directly from his religious convictions—which explains how the president was able to combine what few leaders can hold together: moral.
